Case Study

Carbon Revegetation Guide

Client: Riverina Local Land Services

Riverina Local Land Services needed a practical, easy-to-understand guide to help landholders explore opportunities in carbon revegetation.

Kate Jenkins, Project Officer with Riverina LLS, engaged my services after hearing strong recommendations from colleagues familiar with my work. The team was looking for a designer who understood government branding, could translate complex information into plain-English visuals, and could support a smooth, collaborative process.

Services

Custom graphic design project, including layout design; diagram design; editing; compliance with NSW government branding; supply of web-accessible pdf; and print brokering and delivery of the printed guides.

The Challenge

The challenge was to take several pages of technical content and diagrams, and transform them into a clear, concise, visually friendly resource, while meeting strict NSW Government branding and accessibility requirements.

The Approach

I worked closely with Kate to simplify and restructure the technical content into a clear and logical flow that would be easy for landholders to follow.

We focused on improving clarity while maintaining accuracy and compliance.

 This involved:

  • Technical information was distilled into a concise four-page format
  • Updating and redesigning an existing diagram using NSW Government pictograms to clearly communicate the project process
  • Delivering the final resource as a WCAG-compliant, accessible PDF suitable for online use

The Outcome

The final guide is clear, practical, and visually engaging, and tailored specifically to landholders new to carbon revegetation projects.

Restructuring the content dramatically improved readability; the redesigned diagram communicates a complex process at a glance; and the accessible PDF ensures the resource can be used widely across digital platforms.

Kate shared that the finished product not only met the brief but made the communication of their message far more effective.

Kate’s experience working with me

“What I appreciated most about working with Danielle was the supportive and collaborative experience. As someone with no prior experience in graphic design projects, I was initially unsure of what to expect. Danielle guided me through each stage of the process with patience and professionalism.

She successfully converted over four pages of technical information into a visually engaging and easy-to-read format, improved clarity, met NSW Government branding guidelines, redesigned the timeline diagram, and delivered an accessible PDF suitable for website upload.

Danielle definitely met my expectations… She delivered a product that was visually appealing and effective in communicating our message.

I would absolutely recommend Danielle to others, and would happily work with her again.”

What I loved about working on this project

Projects like this are right in my wheelhouse. I get genuinely excited about work that has a practical, on-ground outcome for landholders and the environment.

Combining my background in NRM with design and editing skills meant I could really step into the client’s shoes – I understand both the technical content and how it would be used in the real world.

Helping turn complex information into something clear, accessible, and genuinely useful is the part of my work I enjoy most.
